Erik Spoelstra ‘encouraged’ by Tyler Hero’s recovery from injury
MIAMI – With The Miami Heat are going through a funk having lost seven of its last eight games before Tuesday’s contest against the Toronto Raptors, the team is without key players, including its star Tyler Herro. As it is It looks like the Heat are about to break out of their massive slump in order to return to its early success, there is no doubt that the team wants Herro and the head coach back Erik Spoelstra provides updates on its progress.
Herro, together with Nikola Jovic and Pele Larson, has been ruled out for Tuesday’s home game against Toronto, marking the All-Star’s seventh absence in eight games since last season as he deals with a toe contusion. It’s undoubtedly been a frustrating injury-riddled season for Hero, as he also missed the first 17 games of the regular season while recovering from offseason ankle surgery.
As for Larson, he will miss six of Miami’s last seven games, including Tuesday’s outing, with a sprained ankle most of the time. As for Jovic, he suffered a scary injury that looked like an arm problem at the time against the Raptors on Dec. 15, but ended up being an elbow injury, listed as “right elbow; contusion/tear.”
Spoelstra told ClutchPoints before Tuesday’s game against the Raptors that he was “encouraged” by the progress made by all three.
“I’m very encouraged by the progress,” Spoelstra said. “They’re not ready to go tonight and we don’t have a time frame, but I can see what they’re doing. I don’t have to go into all the details of what I’m seeing, but I came in yesterday and I was encouraged.”

Erika Spoelstre ‘underperforms’ as Heat miss Tyler Herro, among others

Doc Herro will miss Game 7 for the Heat with a toe injury, along with the absences of Jovic and Larsson, there’s no denying that the team could have used the power of the star guard during the slump. Miami has dealt with an influx of injuries the past few seasons, like Spoelstra he said last week that he was not frustrated with constant absences.
“No, it’s part of the process,” Spoelstra said, according to The Miami Herald. “And he’s working hard. And as soon as he can get back to feeling like he can move the way he wants to, he’ll be back out there.”
With the Heat looking to return to their early 14-7 start to the season, it was inevitable that opposing teams would notice the team’s new offensive philosophy, emphasizing a fast pace, but now is the time to counter the team’s adjustments. Spoelstra would openly say after Miami’s 135-127 loss to the New York Knicks that the team’s performance “it’s not enough.”
“We’re not happy about the result,” Spoelstra said of the positives during the slump, according to a team video, via Heat Central on X, formerly Twitter. “We’re not just trying to play well and lose in the end, we’re developing a competitive, collective will. Our guys care in the locker room, but it’s got to be another level. It’s not enough. It’s got to be more. This league is a wild league. It’s survival of the fittest, and that’s where we’re going to get.”
Coach Spo says the Heat need to worry more than they do right now
“Our guys worry in the locker room, but they have to be another level. It has to be more. It’s not enough. This is a wild league. Its survival from the toughest competitors. We’ll get there.”

It remains to be seen when Hero, Jovic and Larson return as Miami looks to avoid hitting .500 on the season, as the team had a 15-14 record heading into Tuesday’s game.
