Erik Spoelstra explains Tyler Hero’s interesting injury recovery plan

MIAMI – Ace Miami Heat star Tyler Hero has been upgraded on the injury report for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans, there’s a huge catch coming when he’s available. With The heat wants to change its appearance after Saturday’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the situation around Hero is undoubtedly strange, as a coach Erik Spoelstra explains the plan with his injury.

Hero has missed the last 10 games and 12 of 13 with a right big toe injury, which doesn’t even count the first 17 contests he missed at the start of the season, having made just six appearances so far. However, he was upgraded to “doubtful” on Sunday afternoon, with the hope that he could return, but it will be a while before he returns.

ClutchPoints has learned Herro will be listed as “available” for Sunday’s game against the Pelicans and will be in uniform but not expected to play as part of his “strengthening process.” Spoelstra would provide a little more insight, telling ClutchPoints “he’s getting closer.”

“Well, he’s putting in a lot of work. He’s getting close,” Spoelstra said. “This is just more to get the mindset, you know, ready for the next step. He’s going to travel with us, but, you know, it’s still day-to-day. I don’t have an exact date when he’ll be ready.”

Hero will travel with Miami on a four-game road trip after the Pelicans game, which bodes well for the 25-year-old, Spoelstra said. In six games played, he averaged 23.2 points, five rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from deep.

Other injuries for The matchup features Sixth Man of the Year candidate Jaime Jaquez Jr., who will miss Sunday’s game with a sprained ankle. However, despite the intriguing plan for Hero, it appears to be a positive step in the right direction, as Miami could use another offensive punch, especially after a disappointing loss to Minnesota.

Spoelstra would see progress from the game, despite the loss, telling ClutchPoint that the team “ticked some boxes.”

“We played really hard last night,” Spoelstra said. “So from a competitive standpoint, we checked some boxes. There were a lot of things during the game. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, when they got going, we didn’t respond to that. And you have to play well; that’s the case sometimes. You know, they play better than us, but I thought we competed hard and well, if we’re going to be in a position to win, we can win. I know, I definitely felt a lack or lack of some paint offense that Jaime can create.”

“But other guys stepped up, and I thought there were some really good things, you know, from other guys,” Spoelstra continued. “(Having) a similar type of level of competition and then bringing a more efficient game on both ends of the floor, where we’re finding our identity more consistently, not letting teams take us out of that identity, affecting the game, taking it on our terms. And we know how important this game is before we go on the road.”

Either way, Miami is 19-16 before Sunday’s game, and after that, the team embarks on a four-game Midwest road trip, starting next Tuesday against the Timberwolves.
