Erik Spoelstra reveals how defenses try to stifle Jaime Jaquez Jr.

With Miami Heat vs New York Knicks in the next two games, starting friday night, one player who will be huge is Jaime Jaquez Jr., in the middle of the comeback season. As Yakuza grew tremendously with the heat and adjusted to the team’s new offense, opposing defenses give it new strategies, which led to the head coach’s response Erik Spoelstra.
While Jaquez has returned to his strengths in driving downhill and attacking the paint, averaging 17 points in 12 games off the bench, defenses have been attacking the 24-year-old with bigger defenders to throw him off balance. Spoelstra would talk about the team and the young star adapting to it.
“I’m sure, you know, more teams will give him a high-five,” Spoelstra said, via Heat Diehards on X, formerly Twitter, taken from the team. “The quicker we get to that, what teams are doing consistently, the better we’ll be able to adjust and he’ll adjust. You know, even the other night, he was able to get to the rim. He missed four or five of those, I know there’s more size on him, but, you know, if three of them fall, you know, that could change things.”
“His game is improving, so that will continue to be an element of his offense,” Spoelstra continued. “But, you know, we adjust so he’s not aggressive, that’s not it. We want to be aggressive. Be yourself and we’ll figure it out. He’ll figure it out. And you know, I’m looking forward to seeing that tonight.”
