Erik Spoelstra touched by outpouring of solidarity after fire at his home
Erik Spoelstra went back in detail to the tragedy that struck his family on Thursday morning: the fire, whose causes remain unknowndevastated his home in Florida.
The Heat coach just returned from his team’s “trip” to Denver. Luckily, her children (Santiago, Dante and Ruby) were at their mother’s house at the time of the incident. In his first public speech since the incident, the coach was primarily satisfied with the main thing, which is that no one was hurt.
“Items in the house can be replaced. And if some can’t…what does it matter, after all?”he stated. “What’s really important is the family, our loved ones, our dog as well, who is safe and sound, thank God. We’re just grateful. We’re grateful that everyone is okay.”
The coach did not want to accept the few days of rest offered by the management.
“Obviously it’s a very difficult test, but the Spoelstras are resilient.
True, he quickly returned to work. He could count on the support of the entire “Heat family” and beyond to help him get through the aftermath of the fire, especially with his children, who were able to return to school on Friday and then to downtown Kaseia, their “second house”.
“The kids wanted to come to the game tonight. So I said to myself: if they want to come, maybe I’d be there to train.”he explained. “I just want to thank everyone for this incredible support. The South Florida community has been incredible. Many have reached out to us. This is obviously a very difficult ordeal for our family, but the Spoelsters are resilient.”
The page has been turned, even if daily life promises to be quite hectic in the coming weeks. His players have already provided support in their own way, returning to win against the Hornets.
