Fans can’t believe Rudy Gobert got a tech on Isaiah Hartenstein’s ‘flop’

The The tough stretch for the Minnesota Timberwolves continuesas they lost their third straight game in a 113-105 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. After two straight shutouts against inferior opposition, the Timberwolves at least brought more energy and fight to the reigning champions. Alas, the Thunder are just too good — especially when they get the benefit of the doubt on wrong calls seemingly every time.

One completely inexplicable play in the second quarter further added to the accusations that the officials were favoring the Thunder. In a classic rebound battle, the Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert waved his hand towards the surroundings Isaiah Hartenstein. Hartenstein then made a meal of that move by Gobert while acting like Gobert had punched him right in the face.

But a close look at the replay shows that the Timberwolves are the center he didn’t even make contact with Hartenstein though the Thunder center holding his face and going to the ground. After Hartenstein convinced officials he had been hit, they inspected the play for a hostile act. Of course, a slow-motion look at the play would reveal that Gobert didn’t do anything close to being a foul.

For some reason, Gobert got a technical foul on that exchange — prompting fans to react wildly on social media to Gobert’s non-violent act that made Hartenstein look like he was rocked by an uppercut.

“Gobert just got called for the most amazing technique I’ve ever seen in my life. He didn’t even touch Hartenstein vtf,” X user @prodiscplayer wrote.

“NO WAY the refs looked at that replay and said Gobert should get a technical there. They SHOULD have given Hartenstein a technical for the flop.” @BiasedHouston he added. “No mate, I’d be pissed if I was a T-Wolves fan. One of the worst calls I’ve ever seen in my life.”

The game against the Thunder was always going to be tough, which hurt them the last two losses before Wednesday night it stings so much more.

Another tough game awaits the Timberwolves, but they have at least two full days of rest before they start again on Saturday against the Boston Celtics.
