Fans celebrate Joe Mazzula for a doubleheader win over the Nets

The Boston Celtics, on Friday nightit was the first night of a back-to-back set, and as such they decided to rest Derrick White for what on paper looked like an easier matchup against the Brooklyn Nets. However, the Nets gave the Celtics a scare, and they nearly handed Boston a devastating loss. But somehow, someway, Boston found a way to get the job done — beating the Nets 130-126 in the most incredible fashion in double overtime.

It looked like the Celtics would fall in the first overtime, and the Nets took advantage of Boston’s inability to close out the game in regulation. After Jaylen Brown missed a three-point attempt that would have tied the game at 115, the Nets extended their lead to five thanks to two free throws by Ziaire Williams. But that was only the beginning of the end of Brooklyn.

Peyton Pritchard drilled a 3-pointer to pull within two points on the ensuing possession. And the Nets then opened the door after Nolan Traore, who was having the best game of his career so far, missed a free throw.

The Celtics then tied the game thanks to an unlikely 3-pointer by Hugo Gonzalez — with Joe Mazzulla brings him after seeing the defensive configuration of the Nets, set things in motion for an eventual victory in Boston.

Coach Joe Macula has certainly proven himself as one of the best coaches in the NBA this season. Despite seeing the Celtics lose their roster due to the luxury tax amid Jayson Tatum’s recovery from a torn Achilles, Boston is still in second place in the East at 28-16.

“We see internal development at C like no other. Mazzulla is the best in business man,” X user @ballknover96 wrote.

“I think Mazzulla deserves more credit in this app.. that replacement and stepping Hugo into something great,” @deck_mitch11840 he added.

“Mazzulla is still a goat,” @stacksprops further.
