Fans will be relieved because of Dominic Mysterio’s injury
While it was stated that it would be out “indefinitely” with a shoulder injury, WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominic Mysterio provided an update on his upcoming return.
It may come sooner than anyone expected. Dave Meltzer reports that Mysterio found out he “doesn’t need surgery,” which means he can only miss “three to four weeks” of action.
This also gives him a chance to return to the ring by the time the Royal Rumble rolls around on January 31, 2026. Meltzer said he “should be back” in time for the PLE.
Still, it’s fair to be cautious. Meltzer noted the “timeline is fluid,” but doctors told him “three to four weeks” during his last visit.
After all, Mysterio may have gone off the rails with this update. “On a bad script, he got the best news,” Meltzer concluded on the matter.
When did WWE’s Dominic Mysterio suffer his shoulder injury?
Mysterio suffered an injury during a match at AAA Guerra De Titanes on December 20, 2025. He teamed with El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) to face his father, Rey Mysterio, and Rey Fenic.
As if losing the match wasn’t enough, Mysterio suffered a shoulder injury while taking a DDT from his father. He could be seen clutching his shoulder immediately after the impact.
Fortunately, it doesn’t appear to be a long-term injury. If all goes well, he could return as soon as the Royal Rumble in late January 2026.
That should be a big relief for WWE fans. Doomsday member Liv Morgan has just returned from a shoulder injury, her latest of many. Additionally, JD McDonagh just had surgery to repair his ailments, so Doomsday isn’t at full strength as it is.
Currently, Mysterio is a two-time champion. He is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion and Lucha Libre AAA Mega Champion worldwide. Earlier in his career, he once won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with his father. They became the first father-son duo to win the WWE Championship.
