Former CEO describes Mayweather’s role in betting

Former Director of Quantitative Research and Development for Dallas Mavericks, Bob Voulgaris is considered one of the NBA’s most prolific rebounders of all time. With millions in winnings and a wide betting network of his own, Voulgaris recently revealed details about the darker side of gambling.
Speaking about Pablo Torre Finds Out, Voulgaris revealed extensive details about it involving none other than Floyd Mayweatherwhich he claimed to have been made ideal “beard”, someone who places bets on behalf of others.
“By the way, I’m sure Floyd Mayweather is bearded for other people. I don’t want to blow his place or anything, but he would be the perfect beard. Like I don’t know that’s the case, but I bet there’s a good chance he was bearded for someone else,” Voulgaris revealed.

Voulgaris described an attempt to use Mayweather as a betting broker that failed because Mayweather repeatedly insisted on picking his own bets instead of making the picks Voulgaris wanted to make.
“But he was very difficult to deal with, I’ll say that much. My thing was I gave him the game I wanted to bet on, one game, we bet. Then we gave him the next game to bet and it was, I forget what the team was, but let’s just say Denver vs. San Antonio and we wanted to bet on Denver. And he would explain like San Antonio, no, he found it,” Mayweather was simply going to pick his own teams.
Voulgaris said he suggested the alternative, that Mayweather simply bet against him, which the former professional boxer refused.
“So the conversation started and I was like, yeah, I don’t have time for this. And I just pulled Floyd. He wasn’t worth it,” he said.
While Voulgaris eventually backed down, he had no doubt that Mayweather was simply the ideal “beard.”
