Former WWE champion thinks John Cena is ‘perfect’
Last year, in the main event on Saturday night December 13, 2025. Gunther defeated and typed WWE Icon John Cena in his last wrestling match. Although the match’s finish drew heavy criticism and boos from WWE and Triple H from the fans, several wrestlers veterans have since come out in favor of ending it.
He recently appeared on What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon, ex-WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan opened his mind about Cena’s retirement and explained why she believes it’s “perfect.”
“As a John Cena fan, (his) number one fan growing up, I thought it was perfect,” Morgan said, explaining, “I think there’s an element of the crowd that wants him out of that hold so bad. If I wasn’t crying for John Cena, I was crying for the crowd’s belief that he was going to get out of the hold,” Morgan said.

She elaborated, “I feel like you could look at his face (expressions) a couple of different ways. Was he smiling because this was the end, and he was kind enough to let it go? Or you could be a little cocky, like he fucking gave it to Gunther, he didn’t have to tap, he fucking gave it to Gunther. You know what was different, because his time was different. Any way you can look at it, it was like John Cena wasn’t typed because he had to type because time was up and it was Gunther’s turn.
Before Cena retired in Saturday night’s main event, he wrestled his final PLE match at Survivor Series: WarGames 2025, where Liv Morgan made its months-long return and got into a fight with Cena.
