Franz Wagner back before the All-Star break?
in two months, Franz Wagner looking to recover from a left ankle injury. Briefly seen during matches in London and Berlin, the Orlando winger has not played since the Floridians returned to the United States.
Moritz’s brother also confessed returning earlier than expected from injury so he could play in front of his audience in Germany.
“Ending the rehabilitation period is the most delicate part to manage,” admits President Magik, Jeff Veltman, who feels like he’s in “Endless Day”. “At that point it’s all about how you feel and you can’t really know until you make up your mind. I don’t think anyone could have stopped Franz from playing in Berlin. He must have felt ready, especially thanks to the adrenaline. That was less the case in the next match in England and he probably told himself he wasn’t ready to play yet.”
Franz Wagner has missed the Magic’s last nine games as a result, but the winger is now targeting a return before the All-Star break. Until then, Orlando will host the Bucks twice and the German hopes to return in one of those two games. Franz Wagner was also announced as doubtful and was no longer withdrawn for the first leg.
A matter of time
“Honestly, I still have to tick the boxes and make all the moves I need to make in the match. says Franz Wagner about his rehabilitation. “You have to be able to take some pain, but you shouldn’t overdo it. The pain shouldn’t get worse after training and throughout the rest of the day.”
Without Franz Wagner, the Magic have a 12-13 record and are now in 7th place in the East. With his winger back, Jamahl Mosley is hoping he can make a push after the All-Star break to avoid being drafted. This is why the revival of Franz Wagner is primarily a matter of time.
The goal is to take your time getting back into the game to avoid an immediate relapse…
“We talk a lot,” explains Jamahl Mosley. “It will all depend on how he responds to treatment. In an ideal world, you always want to find a guy as soon as possible. It’s smart to understand how he responds to whatever is being asked of him and think long term.”
