Fred VanVleet offers optimistic outlook for ACL injury comeback
The The Houston Rockets won off to a rough start to the 2025-26 NBA season, currently 0-2 after a recent home loss to the Detroit Pistons. Kevin Durant has had no problem integrating into his new surroundings, but the Rockets’ lack of a true point guard has been a glaring problem so far this season.
The man who was supposed to fill that role was Fred VanVleetbut unfortunately, the former NBA champion went down with an ACL injury right before the start of the season.
Recently, VanVleet went 100% real his state of mind how he recovers from the injury
“There’s no timeline. It’s slow, day by day. We’ll see where we are by the end of the year,” VanVleet told The Rockets Wire on X, formerly Twitter.
The report also states that the Rockets have not ruled VanVleet out for the year.
The Rockets’ lack of a player who can orchestrate the offense and get everyone the ball in their place has been a clear problem through two games. While Reed Shepard can theoretically fill that role, his severe limitations on the defensive end of the floor have clearly diminished head coach Ime Udoka’s confidence in him thus far.
Interesting Rockets team

However, it should be noted that the Rockets have played the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder and a playoff team in the Detroit Pistons so far, so their 0-2 start should by no means be a cause for panic.
The Rockets are loaded with elite, long athletes who can cause disruption on the defensive end of the floor while having tremendous shot creation on offense, and it would only be a matter of time before the team figures out how best to play alongside each other.
Either way, the Rockets will have a good chance to get into the win column for the first time this season when they host the undefeated Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. That game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM ET from Houston.
