Georgia Tech’s Brent Key doesn’t hold back from a brutal performance against NC State

Georgia Tech football was stunned by North Carolina State on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets, who entered the game undefeated, lost 48-36. Loss puts Georgia Tech is hoping to make the College Football Playoff in danger.
After the bitter loss, Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key unloaded in the press about his team’s poor performance. Georgia Tech allowed nearly 600 yards of offense to the Wolfpack.
“They lined up and physically hit us (on the butt) in a lot of ways,” Key told The Associated Press. “It is what it is. It’s on me. I take responsibility for it.”
North Carolina State entered the game tense, with injuries to several key players. That might have made the win even better for the Wolfpack.
“This place represents resiliency,” North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren said. “That’s why I’ve always loved NC State. It’s definitely part of my DNA. The tougher it is, sometimes I think we’re better.”
Georgia Tech is now 8-1 on the season. The loss halts the best start to a season the Yellow Jackets have had since the 1966 campaign. With their win, NC State improves to 5-4 on the year.
Georgia football must win from this point
The Yellow Jackets put themselves in a bad position with this defeat. Georgia Tech still has some tough games on the schedule, including a season-ending meeting with in-state rival Georgia. The Yellow Jackets also have to play Pittsburgh.
Georgia Tech managed more than 400 yards in a game against North Carolina State. The team lost the turnover battle, however, as quarterback Haynes King threw an interception. In the end, the team’s defense just couldn’t get stops when they needed it.
The Yellow Jackets dropped to second place in the ACC standings after the loss. Georgia Tech is tied for second place with Pittsburgh, as both teams hold 5-1 conference records. Virginia leads the ACC with a 5-0 mark in the conference.
Georgia Tech has a bye next, before playing Boston College on Nov. 15.
