Giannis Antetokounmpo brings the receipts to prove how Milwaukee wins

Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo was very transparent about how he affects winning on a close basis for his team, using analytics to make his point during his postgame media availability following a 115-98 win against the Sacramento Kings. Antetokounmpo drew the game-winning drive for the Bucks in a 122-121 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.

Then Antetokounmpo spoke about his offensive strengthwhich includes a healthy mix of scoring and passing, which Giannis backed up with some eye-popping stats in his team’s locker room media scrimmage.

“I’m at a point in my career where I just want to help my team win. Obviously, do I believe I can help? I can play. Yes. Do I believe I have to give them room to grow? Yes. Me and Stefan are checking the stats today, right? Seven more assists. I’ve won 69% of my games,” Antetokounmpo said. Yes. Eight more assists, 73 percent of my games.

“So, for the most part, when I’m the point guard, we’re winning. No, but just give them room to grow, man. I think they’re playing great. We’re going to need them to play, especially when we’re playing on the road, when we’re playing big games, not trying to dig ourselves out of this hole deep in the playoffs. So we’re going to have to give them room.”

Antetokounmpo also gave examples of where he can lead the Bucks’ offense from various spots around the floor.

“I can help from the post. I can shoot from the elbow. Whenever I get a rebound, I have the freedom to pick the ball up and make a play,” Antetokounmpo added. “So I’m happy. I’m happy where I am now.”

The Bucks have won four of their last five games.

Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo alley-oop sent the Hornets home in a one-point win. Antetokounmpo found Kevin Porter Jr. for the slam, which put the Bucks ahead for good. After the victory Porter Jr. discovered the play is Giannis’ idea, he said, per Eric Nehm of the Athletics.

“While he was coming up with something, and Giannis had a feeling they were changing a lot, so he gave us that play, basically, and we ran it,” Porter Jr. said.

Antetokounmpo says this isn’t the first time this has happened.

“I’ve been in this situation before — I think, like, a month and a half ago,” Antetokounmpo said after the game. “When I was (in) the elbow, playing ISO for the game against Miles Bridges, and I hit the shot. And then when I shot it, I looked to my left; there was a guy in the corner, and I thought to myself, ‘Why didn’t I go (dribble) and just let the play go?’ In short, we won that game in overtime.”

The Bucks will begin a four-game road trip against the Warriors on Wednesday.
