Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn’t have an injury timeline, but he won’t be out for the season

Giannis Antetokounmpo previously stated that the calf injury he is recovering from could sideline him up to four to six weeks. With an uncertain history of a double MVP with calf injuries, claims Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers that there is no time frame for his return as things stand.
“There’s really no schedule. There’s no thinking about it. But listen, there’s no schedule either,” he said, apparently diminishing possibilities extended absence, according to ESPN.
Antetokounmpo was in noticeable discomfort during Friday’s loss to the Denver Nuggets, playing with a sprained right calf. He exited with 34 seconds left on the clock and looks set to miss multiple games.
Giannis missed eight games earlier this season with a right calf strain, while left calf injuries forced him to miss the 2024 playoffs and the 2025 All-Star Game. The latest setback marks the fourth calf injury he has suffered in the last three seasons.
The injury comes at a precarious time for Milwaukee, which has lost five of its last six games and currently sits in 11th place in the Eastern Conference at 18-26. The Bucks were significantly less competitive without him, posting a 3-11 record in the games he missed.
“I felt like I couldn’t explode. I could jog. I couldn’t stand on my toes, so I jogged on my heels most of the game. I didn’t have the same explosiveness, but I still felt like I could help. Eventually, when it snapped, I had to come out. I couldn’t walk,” Antetokounm said.
The Bucks’ injury woes extend beyond Antetokounmpo, as they’ve also been without second-leading scorer Kevin Porter Jr. for the last two games due to an oblique. Regardless, Giannis has played 30 games so far this season and is well short of the league’s 65-game requirement to be considered for individual honors, which will be an added blow to the Greek Freak.
