Giannis Antetokounmpo probably for the rematch of the NBA Cup

The Milwaukee Bucks received encouraging news ahead of their upcoming NBA Cup matchup, as Giannis Antetokounmpo is listed as probable with the problem of patellar tendinopathy of the left knee. Despite battling the discomfort for much of the season, the two-time MVP continued to play at an elite level, and all signs point to him suiting up when the Bucks take on the Charlotte Hornets.

Milwaukee enters the game at 7-5, but the momentum is not entirely on their side. Just days earlier, the Bucks suffered a surprising loss to the struggling Hornets, who are 4-7 and dealing with injuries themselves.

That defeat exposed defensive lapses and inconsistent offensive flow, pitemized without Giannis working at full strength. With positioning in the group stage of the NBA Cup on the line, Milwaukee will be ready to respond immediately.

Giannis’ availability will be crucial. Even while nursing a knee problem described as patellar tendinopathy, he has remained one of the league’s most dominant forces, consistently posting high numbers and carrying the Bucks through rough patches.

His presence changes the geometry of the offense.

Charlotte, meanwhile, deals with a a long list of injuries likewise. Brandon Miller (left shoulder subluxation), Josh Green (shoulder surgery) and Grant Williams (knee surgery) remain out, while LaMelo Ball and KJ Simpson are listed as probable.

That didn’t stop them from taking down Milwaukee on Wednesday, using over-the-top plays and perimeter shooting. The Hornets will again try to test Milwaukee’s defense with pace and ball movement.

For the Bucks, this NBA Cup game is more than a rematch; it’s an opportunity for the season opener to reassert himself after inconsistent performances. Getting Giannis back on the floor, even at less than 100%, dramatically increases their chances of avoiding a second straight loss to Charlotte.

With the tournament at stake, the motivation for revenge and the potential return of their superstar, the Bucks will look to use this matchup to regain momentum and strengthen their position in the group stage.
