Giannis Antetokounmpo reveals the disconnect leading to a possible trade
The The Milwaukee Bucks face the music. Accepting the fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo may not get his coveted opportunity to compete for a title in a Bucks uniform from here on out, the team is instead doing the greatest player in franchise history a favor by shopping him to interested teams competing to give him one last chance to play for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Antetokounmpo has pressured the front office to make the necessary improvements over the past few years to bolster his title hopes. Unfortunately, none of their moves worked as planned, and their maneuvering this past offseason reeked of despair — without much result for it.
It’s gotten to the point where Antetokounmpo feels like he and the Bucks have a disconnection in terms of goals — leading to what looks like his eventual exit from the team he’s called home since 2013.
“I know what my goal is. I don’t know what their goal is,” Antetokounmpo told Jim Ovczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“I have a lot of respect, love and likeability for John and the ownership and that will never be different. It’s not going to change. But at the end of the day … you have to take a look.”
The Bucks’ overreaction and missteps in the draft cost them Giannis

The Bucks have to go back in the summer of 2023 to see where things went wrong for Milwaukee. They overreacted to a first-round exit by a red-hot Miami Heat team; this led to their decision to trade Jrue Holiday and a bunch of their future first round picks for Damian Lillard, someone they would end up giving up in 2025 just to bring in Myles Turner.
Their Khris Middleton trade was also a disaster, as the addition of Kyle Kuzma didn’t move the needle one bit for the Bucks. And then there’s the matter of Milwaukee hanging on to their 2020 draft picks, and AJ Johnson being left behind in the Kuzma trade.
Now, the Bucks don’t have much in the way of future assets. They don’t have many promising young players. They eat Lillard’s deadhead. And now, Antetokounmpo is more likely than ever to switch teams — the end of a disastrous last four years for Milwaukee.
