Giannis Antetokounmpo shuts down Doc Rivers’ “dead legs” excuse.

On Tuesday evening, The Milwaukee Bucks continued their losing streak with a blowout loss at home hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves with a score of 139-106. Not much went right in this game, which dropped the Bucks’ record to 17-23 in the 2025-26 NBA season.

After the game, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers it seemed that blame the loss on the fact that Milwaukee had just returned home after a long trip through the Western Conference.

“I honestly thought we were playing dead,” Rivers said, via Bucks on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, the Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo had a completely different view of the situation.

“I don’t think it’s dead legs. Come on … that can’t be an excuse,” Antetokounmpo said.

The Bucks certainly didn’t seem energized Tuesday night, trailing by 18 points at the end of the first quarter to a Timberwolves team that was without Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert.

Antetokounmpo mostly did his part, scoring 25 points in the loss, but he didn’t get a ton of help in the scoring column from his Bucks teammates.

The Bucks have teetered around mediocrity for essentially the entire 2025-26 season, and while Antetokounmpo continues to put up Herculean stat lines on a seemingly nightly basis, Milwaukee seems pretty far out of the legitimate discussion, even in the weak Eastern Conference.

This has understandably fueled rumors surrounding the Bucks over the past few weeks and even since the offseason, but so far there’s been no indication that the team is seriously considering trading the best player in franchise history, even though it’s becoming increasingly apparent that the partnership has run its course.

The Bucks will next take the floor Thursday night on the road against the San Antonio Spurs.
