Giannis Antetokounmpo’s takedown of Daniel Gafford is explosive

On Monday night, The Milwaukee Bucks have improved to 7-4 in the young 2025-26 NBA season with a road win via the Dallas Mavericks in Nick Harrison’s final game as the franchise’s general manager. It wasn’t necessarily a pretty performance from the Bucks, but they managed to make enough plays down the stretch thanks to another huge performance Giannis Antetokounmpo.

One scary moment happened late in this game when Antetokounmpo drove and was pulled hard to the floor by the Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford.

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, they were not thrilled with the game.

“This is a terrible thing. Giannis is going to be hurt at some point this year because of it. He’s always been unfairly judged, but this year he’s taking it to a whole new level and it feels like other teams have taken notice and are pushing the boundaries more,” remarked one fan.

Others wondered what the Bucks were even supposed to do in this situation.

“I mean, what’s the way forward for the Bucks here? Doc has talked about the trial a few times. Giannis even talked about it. Something has to be done,” wrote another fan.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the few players in NBA history, alongside stars like Shaquille O’Neal and Dwight Howard, who is extremely difficult to judge because of how much stronger he is than everyone else. On one hand, Antetokounmpo can use that strength to harass opponents at the rim, but on the other hand, opponents’ attempts to stop him don’t affect Antetokounmpo as much as other players, so the officials tend to let it slide more.

Doc Rivers has indeed been vocal about Antetokounmpo’s trial since taking over as the Bucks’ head coach, but at this point it’s unclear exactly what Milwaukee can do to address the issue.

The Bucks will next take the court on Wednesday night against the Charlotte Hornets.
