Giannis traded for Evan Mobley in Zach Lowe’s latest draft

The The Cleveland Cavaliers were on the struggle bus lately, fell to 13-10 Wednesday night with an inexplicable home loss to the lowly Portland Trail Blazers. Doc Donovan Mitchell continues is putting up Herculean stat lines on a nightly basis, he’s not getting as much help as expected from his Cleveland supporting cast, and the injury bug is also starting to take its toll on this Cavaliers team.
That being the case, some have already floated the idea that the Cavs are trying to shake things up with a trade, and on Thursday, Zach Lowe of The Ringer suggested a trade it would bring Eastern Conference MVP in Cleveland.
“I think (Evan) Mobley being the centerpiece of the Giannis deal discussion is much, much, more interesting to me from a Cleveland perspective than it was just a few months ago. Because this is increasingly looking like a Donovan Mitchell team, it’s a Donovan Mitchell timeline,” Lowe told The Zach Love Show.
Lowe clarified that “Evan Mobley is really good, and he’s really young, he’s 24, they’re going to have to add more than that and there are apron limitations.”
Mobley has been a disappointment for the Cavs this season, as fans are still waiting for the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner to take the offensive leap that has been expected for several years. Meanwhile, Mobley’s frontcourt partner Jarrett Allen has been in and out of the lineup due to injury, and hasn’t been particularly impressive when he’s been on the floor.
Overall, the pairing of Mitchell and Antetokounmpo would give the Cavaliers arguably two of the three best players in the conference on their team, which would be very difficult for any opponent to overcome in a playoff series.
However, as Lowe pointed out, completing this trade would require some maneuvering on Cleveland’s part.
