Giants trade proposal brings in Chris Olaf from the Saints

The New York Giants seemed destined for last place in the NFC East as the season wore on. They lost their first three games and seemed disorganized and on the verge of collapse. Veteran QB Russell Wilson tried hard, but the idea of him turning the Giants around seemed ridiculous.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll looked like he was about to clean out his office. He may have had the support of his players and even the management, but the fans were tired of his defeat. He seemed to need a little something of a miracle.

Daboll made a momentous decision soon after. He brought in a rookie Jackson Dart into the lineup instead of Wilson and the team reacted dramatically. The previously dying giants defeated a very solid Los Angeles Chargers team by a margin of 21-18. Dart completed 13 of 20 passes with a TD pass and a TD run, but the Giants suffered a brutal injury that game to wide receiver Malik Nabbers.

The young star was taken off the field in the second quarter with a serious knee injury. He tore his ACL and meniscus and will be out for the rest of the season. The Giants hope he will be ready for the start of the 2026 season.

Darth’s presence injected new life into the team. While the Giants would suffer a 26-14 loss to the New Orleans Saints the following week, the Giants played their best game in years when they punished the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles 34-17 in Week 6.

The combination of Dart and Cam Skattebo led the way the Giants to victory and gave their longtime fan base hope that they can stay competitive and maybe even have an outside shot at an NFL playoff spot.

However, for that to happen, they have to supplement your VR position after losing Nabers by making a trade. The ideal candidate would be Chris Olave saints. To get him, the Giants will have to make a serious offer to Saints general manager Mickey Loomis.

The Saints are struggling in the NFC South

The Saints may have played a good game when they beat the Giants, but heading into their Week 7 matchup with the Chicago Bears, that’s the only game they’ve won this season.

Spencer Rattler took over at quarterback and is a tough signal caller with limited abilities. The Saints don’t appear to have a realistic chance of making the playoffs, so there’s no reason why Loomis can’t start looking to the future and try to strengthen the team for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

Olave is the Saints’ leading receiver. He caught 39 of 64 targets for 342 yards and a touchdown. He’s not a game changer in the category of Ja’Mar Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals or Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings. He has had a few downs this season and that has to be taken into account. However, it is obvious that he is a talented player.

The 6-foot-1, 189-pound Olave was a first-round pick of the Saints in the 2022 draft after a dynamic career at Ohio State. He caught 72-1,042-4 as a rookie and then great 87-1,123-5 seasons in 2023.

Olave played in just eight games in 2024 as a result of a season-ending concussion. He suffered four concussions in his career. Saints and Olave have discussed a contract extension, but the two sides have not reached any agreement on a new deal at this time.

The Giants would have to compete with the Patriots for Olave

The Giants need a wide receiver, but they aren’t the only team with a need at the position. The New England Patriots are climbing the AFC East standings and are technically in first place heading into their Week 7 game against the Tennessee Titans. Quarterback Drake May is clearly improving and could use a consistent wide receiver who can make tough catches.

Expect the Patriots to make a field goal, so that means the Giants would have to go one better than the Patriots. Olave would be worth at least a third-round pick, but that won’t be enough to get him. The Giants could offer fourth-round picks in 2026 and 2027, and that could give them an advantage over other teams interested in Olave. Another offer could include a third-round pick and a player.

The Giants need a receiver and Olave should be their man. General manager Joe Schoen has to go after him hard.
