Grayson Allen breaks Phoenix’s single-game 3s record
On paper, 2025-26 Phoenix Suns The roster is slightly less talented than last year’s team, mostly due to the departure of future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant. To make matters worse, the main piece the Suns got in the Durant trade, Jalen Green, re-aggravated his hamstring injury. But this Suns team has been playing comfortable basketball to start the new campaign, and that continued Monday night in their 121-98 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
With Green on the mend again, the Suns needed him Grayson Allen to strengthen once more. Allen did just that and then some. He woke up feeling dangerous, wanting to make it rain from behind the arc, and there was nothing the Pelicans could do to stop him. Allen poured in 42 points to lead all scorers, while the Suns guard did most of his damage from beyond the arc – 10-15 from deep.
By the way, Allen now has sole possession of the Suns franchise record for most three-pointers in a single game, according to the Suns’ official account on X (formerly Twitter). Allen made nine three-pointers in one game for the Suns three times earlier in his career, joining the likes of Landry Shamet, Cam Johnson, Aaron Baines, Channing Frie and Quentin Richardson as players to accomplish the feat. But now Allen has surpassed them and himself and now stands alone at the top.
The Pelicans defense was again unfortunate, and Allen made them pay again and again. Allen, in a huge role, looks set to play at least one of these games every year, and Christmas came early for the 30-year-old guard.
The Suns are playing better basketball than expected

Not many expected the Suns to at least play respectable basketball at the start of the 2025-26 season. But they play motivated basketball under first-year head coach Jordan Ott, and they play fierce two-way basketball that does enough to get them wins.
This latest win over the Pelicans is the Suns’ sixth in 11 games this season. Allen will look to continue that on Wednesday when they take on the Dallas Mavericks.
