Grayson Allen is the key to establishing the Suns offense without Devin Booker, Jaylen Green

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns Miss Devin Bookerand Sunday’s 111-102 loss to the Miami Heat proved it all. With guys like Grayson Allen thrust into an expanded role, dismal shooting nights and stout opposing defenses made life miserable.

The latter scored 18 points, but made just one of his 11 attempts from 3-point range. But it’s not like Allen lacked wide-open views.

The Heat forced plenty of rushes and possessions because of their physicality. Doc Booker is out with an ankle injury for the Sunstogether with Jalen Greenlife is hard.

That’s no excuse, but the team may have to live until either player returns. Regardless, Allen has his own antidote for Phoenix can establish a semi-judicial offence without his two dynamic guards.

“We’ve got to keep the tempo inside the half court the whole time we’re out there … don’t make it easy for teams to just switch and sit with the crowd and make us do some one-on-one stuff,” Allen said in the locker room after the game.

“We did it, we did a great job all year. It’s just different without Buck, having to play that way for 48 minutes.”

Grayson Allen has seen the Suns offense stagnate

The Suns had just 13 assists on the night, compared to a season average of 20. Much of that had to do with a stagnant half-court offense.

Again, the The physicality of heat had a lot to do with it, but it was expected. That was it on the scout’s reportand something Dillon Brooks pointed out.

“We still have to use that same physicality and not let them hit us and get to the lane easily and help each other out,” Brooks said in the locker room. “I think we have problems when their big man can shoot the basketball.”

A big man? Bam Adebayo, who hit two of his six 3-pointers. It’s a shot he’s been working on, but that confidence completely opened up the court for Miami.

Despite the loss, Phoenix doesn’t have much time to speculate. They will face the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, a matchup in which Green could return to action.
