Groggy, the Warriors explode against the Raptors

The Warriors returned to the floor of the Chase Center twenty-four hours later lost Jimmy Butler for the rest of the season…and they were clearly hungover. The Raptors immediately took advantage with a 10-0 run to start the game. The skill of Immanuel Quickley (40 points, 10 assists) and Grady Dick continues to quickly increase the deficit (28-10). Gary Payton II’s two 3-pointers stopped the bleeding, but Scotty Barnes (26 points, 11 assists, 7 rebounds) kept the Warriors in a tough situation (41-28).

As announced after the last match and before this one, Steve Kerr then decided to launch Jonathan Cummings. Clearly lacking pace, the winger does little better than his teammates. As Sandro Mamukelasvili (14 points, 12 rebounds) makes three of three threes, the Warriors are 3/17, and Toronto starts the second quarter with an 18-3 lead to move to +28 (59-31) … Need a good pass from Stephen Curry (16 points), so far on the shot Golden State/6. -20 at the break (70-50).

Toronto is getting scared…

The Quickley-Burns duo does not release the pressure. The All-Star is in the oven and in the grinder, while his leader is still as hot as ever. The gap then reached the mark of thirty units (91-61). The Warriors then switch to a zone defense to break the rhythm of the Canadians, and the strategy works… Toronto loses a little shine, while 9 points from Buddy Hield (25 points, 6/6 on 3) and 12 from Jonathan Cumminga allow Golden State to cut the deficit in half (108-94).

Brandon Ingram (22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) gives the Raptors some breathing room from the beginning of the last quarter, but the Dubs, fueled by the crowd, increased defensive intensity and the hot hand of Buddy Hield, continue to recover their deficit (125-116)… a rush from Golden State. The trio of Raptors takes responsibility to finally confirm the logical victory.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Career record tied for Immanuel Quickley. Absent against the Clippers and disappointing against the Lakers, Toronto’s leader grabbed the handlebars with both hands to get back in the saddle. He equaled his record in one game with 40 points and 10 assists. He scored 11 points with 100% success in the first quarter to give his team control of the match. He did it again in a 100 mph third quarter, scoring 14 points on 5/6 shooting. He finished the game 7/8 from three points and 11/11 from free throws.

Convincing return of Jonathan Kuminga. Unused in the last sixteen games, Jonathan Cumminga returned to Steve Kerr’s rotation to compensate for the loss of Jimmy Butler. Like his team, the Congolese struggled when he entered the game in the second quarter. However, he found his rhythm in the third quarter. He scored 12 of his 20 points in the final six minutes of the period, using his athleticism to overwhelm Toronto’s defense. If his burst wasn’t enough to elude Golden State’s defense, he’ll have a chance to show his full value before the transfer window. This is a boon for him, but also for the Warriors in terms of a possible future transfer.

42. In a dominating matchup against the Warriors still reeling from the loss of Jimmy Butler, the Raptors put on an offensive fest. They finished the game with 42 assists with 51 scored baskets, 60% shooting success and 62% three-pointers. Six players scored nine or more points.
