Growing skepticism about Jrue Holiday and the Knicks

Before the deadline, trade rumors surrounded All-Star Karl-Anthony Townswhile the report of New York Knicks trading for Portland Trail Blazers a veteran Jrue Holiday is starting to feel less likely, according to reports. Holiday was linked to the Knicks in a deal that mentioned Mychal Bridges as a potential return for New York.

However, with the number of young promising guards and forwards on the Blazers’ roster, it would be surprising let’s see them add another one of Bridges’ caliber, who would see significant playing time, as Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints noted.

“There were those rumors about the Trail Blazers, but from my perspective, I just don’t see why Portland is doing it because right now they have wing depth with Danny Awdia and Toumani Kamara, and Shaddon Sharp has been great at that point guard position,” Siegel said. “So where does Mikal Bridges fit into the equation. And if you’re going to go after Bridges from Portland’s perspective, why would you give up Jrue Holiday?”

“That’s the player you indicated you wanted from Boston this past offseason, and all the signals from Portland are that it’s going to be a big player if they trade Jrue Holiday.”

The Knicks reportedly ‘explored’ a trade for Jrue Holiday

Amid All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo and the seemingly inevitable Bucks split ahead of this year’s trade deadline, Knicks emerged as a suitor for Jrue Holiday. It may be the Knicks’ last attempt to pair Antetokounmpo with a backcourt that includes All-Star Jaylen Brunson and two-time champion Holiday.

Either way, the Knicks reportedly want it make a significant trade before this year’s deadline, according to NBA insider Mark Stein.

“There are at least two clear reasons why New York would be interested in a player who helped both Milwaukee and Boston win championships this decade: 1) The assumption that buying Holiday — if there is a way — would make the Knicks an even more attractive destination for Holiday’s former Bucks teammate Antetokounmpo; 2) New York’s potential backup is believed to favor Holiday as a long-time complement to Jalen Brunson,” Stein said.

The Knicks watched Holiday win championships alongside Antetokounmpo with the Bucks in 2021, and alongside All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown with the Celtics in 2024.
