Hawks hit Trae Young ‘extremely hard’ amid trade frenzy

With discussion about Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young and his trade value, There seems to be a ton of discourse surrounding the guardrails that make him a player that could be difficult for another team to deal with. While it is talks around the Hawks trading Young will continue before the February trade deadline, more insight was provided on what could prevent teams from pursuing him.

In the latest column from The Athletic’s Sam Amick, he talks about the teams that should make a trade before the deadline, naming Atlanta as one of them. He would touch on Young’s situation, saying the team is “more open to discussing deals for him than ever.”

The franchise was concerned about Young’s negative impact on the team, as Atlanta played better without him; the star’s market is “minimal”. Amick would even quote a rival scout who mentioned that Young “An extremely difficult player to beat at the highest level,” which could be how other teams view the 27-year-old.

“League sources say the Hawks, who have seen so many promising signs during that stretch without Young, are more open to contract talks for him than ever,” Amick wrote. “Still, in the absence of clarity regarding legitimate suitors, and with league sources indicating that Young’s market is considered minimal, it remains entirely possible that the Hawks will have to deal with his situation in the summer.”

“A quick context reminder: The Hawks’ choice not to give Young an extension opened the door for all this chatter, as he can opt out and skip town for nothing as a free agent this summer (his player option is worth $48.9 million).”

Why is there ‘eyelash’ around Hawks’ Tree Young?

With Hawks in trade speculation with Dallas Mavericks for Anthony Davispeople wonder if Young would be involved in a potential trade. However, ClutchPoint’s NBA insider Brett Siegel would mention that Dallas is going after Young it wouldn’t make sense because they have other plans, like targeting the 2026 NBA draft.

It doesn’t help that Young is “looking for a new contract,” which is giving teams “scares.”

It remains to be seen what happens with the Hawks and whether they end up trading Young by February 5th. Currently, Atlanta is 15-19, which puts them in 10th place in the Eastern Conference heading into Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
