According to a report by ABC 17 News, Denita Jackson has been charged with second-degree murder and armed robbery after stabbing her boyfriend, Kevon Goldson. Both Goldson and Jackson were part of the track and field team.
According to a report by ABC 17 News, Jackson and Goldson were in a romantic relationship who had a documented history of incidents of domestic violence. Court documents say the recent fight was sparked by a missing bottle of cologne. The fatal incident was precipitated by Jackson who believed Goldson was having an affair with a roommate. On Sunday night, Jackson returned home after leaving work because she was sick. When she returned home at 1 a.m. Monday, she told police she saw Goldson in the room.
Court documents then say that after hearing her roommate talking to someone, she unlocked the door with a hair clip and found Goldson and her roommate in bed together with cologne. Jackson then attacked Goldson and got into a fight. Jackson said Goldson continued to climb on top of her and choke her, at which point she grabbed a knife from her roommate’s bed and stabbed him in the back and chest.
Jackson then called 911, and Goldson was eventually flown to Capital Region EMS and then by helicopter to University Hospital. Goldson succumbed to his injuries during the operation. Jackson was then arrested. In the statement published by the institution, a A University of Lincoln official offered his condolences friends and family members affected by the incident and described it as a tragic situation. The investigation is still ongoing.
