Heat, Rockets, Spurs 3 teams that failed to make a trade before the deadline
There was plenty of movement before the trade deadline, with 27 of the 30 teams in the NBA retire a trade in one form or another. Some have withdrawn the wage barriers. Some traded away veteran stars to bring in draft capital. Other teams sensed blood in the water and acquired superstars to speed up their battle timeline. But three teamsnamely Miami Heat, Houston Rocketsand San Antonio Spurshas completely shut down the trading festivities, as the official ClutchPoint account on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out.
The The Heat were one of the most prominent teams on the market, as they were in Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, Miami, as has been the case for much of the past few years, couldn’t get a deal over the line.
In the meantime, there is a chance to The Rockets lament their passivity on the trade market. They’ve been experiencing slumps of late, including back-to-back double-digit losses to the lowly Boston Celtics and upstart Charlotte Hornets. The lack of a true point guard to lead the team seems to be hurting them, and losing Steven Adams for the season is hurting the team’s identity.
It just is Spurs’ refusal to get involved in the trade market they seem to be of their own choosing. They are confident in their current core, and they already pulled off their blockbuster deal last year when they acquired De’Aaron Fox. With a score of 35-16, this confidence of theirs is well placed.
Even without trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, NBA trade deadline delivered

Many waited for Antetokounmpo’s shoe to drop, but it never did. However, All-Stars like James Harden, Anthony Davis, Trae Young, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Darius Garland, to name a few, switched teams, while quality players like Ivica Zubac, Kristaps Porzingis and Nikola Vucevic were also moved.
Some of these trades, such as the Washington Wizards’ acquisition of Davis and Young, as well as the Utah Jazz’s trade for Jackson, are aimed at making a breakthrough next season.
