Historic triple-double for Scotty Barnes
To allow the Raptors to overtime win against the Warriors, Scottie Barnes signed his first triple-double of the season. But the winger did not sign the classic triple-double because his performance is simply historic. In 40 years, only Nikola Jokić achieved a similar performance: 23 points, 25 rebounds and 10 assists!
Scotty Barnes thus became the 9th player in NBA history to collect at least 23 points, 25 rebounds and 10 assists in the same game. The legend Wilt Chamberlain signed 15 of these 23 appearances, which was imitated by Elgin Baylor (twice), Maurice Stokes, Bob Pettit, Maurice Lucas and more recently Nikola Jokic.
“I was in situations where I could get rebounds, help others. I was in the right places at the right time.”, explained Scotty Barnes.who already had his triple-double in his pocket before the end of the game. “I approach every match with this mindset. I just want to make an impact and be the best I can be on the field. I’m just looking for ways to help the team win.”
Scotty Barnes also tied the game after an offensive rebound with 25 seconds left in the 4th quarter to send the two teams into overtime. Enough to get praise from… Stephen Curry.
“He plays at his own pace” underlines the leader of the Warriors. “He has a great presence on the court and is a great playmaker, even if his style is unconventional at times. He takes advantage of imbalances. He gave them extra possessions all night, with only nine offensive rebounds. He was relentless on rebounds.”

By the way, Scotty Barnes tied two franchise records with his 25 rebounds, including 9 offensive rebounds. Next to him, in the history books of the Raptors, only interiors like Amir Johnson, Chris Bosh or Bismack Biyombo. But the All-Star knows he has to step out of his role and play close to the circle to compensate for Jakob Poltl’s absence.
“I just have a different role as I play position 5”he confirms. “I’m trying to find different ways to orchestrate the offense while still being aggressive. I’m wondering when to set screens, when to pull away, when to be close to the circle, how to continue to create the play, how to attack the matchup while maintaining my aggressiveness…”
Questions to which he found answers last night and Darko Rajaković thanks him for that. “There was incredible determination from the whole group and Scotty led the way with his rebounding, playmaking and defense work. He was at a very, very high level and it was an impressive performance. I can’t wait to watch the video again tonight and enjoy it!”
