Holder, Mohamed Diawara impresses Knicks
Doc Gershon Yabusele wonders if he will finish the season in New Yorkanother Frenchman in the spotlight with the Knicks. Chosen at the 51st position during the 2025 draft. Mohammed Diawara continues to accumulate promising performances for his NBA debut. Like last night against the Pelicans, with 18 points, including 13 in the first quarter.
Despite the return of Myles McBride, recovering from an ankle injury, Mike Brown made a strong choice to return Mohamed Diawara to the starting five for the second time in a row. The cube has been handsomely rewarded.
At just 20 years old, the French winger set the tone from the start by scoring the first five points of the game: a back-to-the-basket play, a powerful layup, and then a game-winning shot to get New York on track. Unsustainable early in the game, he scored 13 points and accounted for half of New York’s points in the first quarter.
“Mo kept us in the match hitting the big shots”, Soulignite Mike Brown after the meeting. “The more he’s on the field, the more comfortable he is. It was really nice to watch.”
“He’s an amazing player and he’s only going to get better.”
More discreet after that, Mohamed Diawara added “only” two extra baskets, but still finished with a career-high 18 points on 7/9 shooting, including a perfect 4/4 from 3-point range. An especially encouraging stat line for a player who has gone a modest 6/18 from behind the arc so far this season.
“It was great to see that tonight.”he confided to OG Anunobi. “He’s an amazing player and he’s only going to get better. It was really cool to see.”
For Mike Brown, Mohamed Diawara is the epitome of a rich and selfless Knicks rotation. “When you play with 12 guys and nobody cares about their time, everybody sacrifices for the team. There’s a real connection. It doesn’t matter if we’re +10 or -10, the guys stay in the match” explains the New York coach. “It shows our competitive spirit, but above all our faith. Faith in the process, faith in each other. When Mo is open, sometimes I say, ‘Okay, yes,’ and his teammates believe him. He makes a shot, or makes the right read, which is extraordinary for such a young player.”
