Horned Frogs troll Matt Leinart after epic comeback against USC

The TCU Horned Frogs erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the No. 16 USC Trojans 30-27 in overtime at the Alamodome, completing an epic return to the Alamo Bowl to end the season. The win capped a dramatic moment in the postseason for a program that has built a reputation for late-game resilience on the bowl stage.

TCU cut the deficit with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, then relied on its special teams to force overtime. Kicker Kyle Lemmerman hit the game-tying field goal as regulation expired, extending a contest that had gone in USC’s favor for much of the second half.

In overtime, the Trojans opened with a field goal by Rion Sayeri, putting immediate pressure on TCU. The Horned Frogs responded to face a third-and-20 after a stalled opening drive. Quarterback Ken Sills checked the ball to running back Jeremy Payne, who turned a short end into a 35-yard touchdown by breaking multiple tackles and cutting across the field.

The return quickly sparked conversation off the field. Former USC quarterback and Fox Sports’ Matt Leinart posted a short message on X (formerly known as Twitter) after the loss, immediately garnering attention as fans reacted to the comment’s timing.

The TCU football program responded shortly after, taking to its X (formerly known as Twitter) after the win to quote the former Trojan quarterback’s tweet with a sharp message that played off USC’s longtime “Fight On” slogan.

“cry”

Leinart later he claimed the post was a subliminal message unrelated to the game, stating that he went to bed before the return was completed. TCU did not remove or clarify its response.

The win secured TCU’s third bowl win under head coach Sonny Dykes and improved the program’s all-time record against USC to 4-2. Both teams end the 2025 season at 9-4, but the Horned Frogs end the year with a bang after another signature comeback victory in the postseason.
