How his wife Dominika Misteria saved him from the bottom to start his wrestling career

Dominic Mysterio has come a long way in his WWE career. The legendary son of Rey Mysterio and one of the most promising talents on the rosterit wasn’t always wonderful for “Dirty Dom.” Before his bout with Doomsday and multiple championship wins, Mysterio was still struggling to find his place on the roster.

Without much character development and only known as Rey Mysterio’s son, everything changed for Dominic Mysterio in Castle Clash, 2022. However, long before that, his wife Marie Juliette had other things planned for him. In a recent interview published by WWE, Dominic Mysterio revealed how his his wife kicked him out of the lowest stage.

“I was about 260 pounds. I just lost,” Mysterio recalled. “My wife, my girlfriend at the time, knew that, and I told her, ‘There’s this opportunity, maybe I’ll go and train in Tampa for six months, but I don’t want to do that. I don’t want to leave.’

“I just remember starting to cry, just freaking breaking down. She looked at me and said, ‘Dom, you’ve got to go. You’ve got to do this’.”

From around 260 pounds to currently weighing 200 pounds, Mysterio has come a long way and is probably in the best shape of his career. His wife’s push and motivation helped the former Intercontinental Champion achieve what he is today.

“Dirty Dom” went from his early tag team wrestling career with his father to a top singles star and potential future world champion.

Dominic Mysterio recalls his father Rey Mysterio’s advice

In an interview with SportsBoom, Dominic Mysterio changed his character consider some tips once he got it from Rey Mysterio.

“I’ve gotten so much advice from him over the years,” he said. “During those early years when I was tagging with him, he’d be ringside for all my matches. It was like a cheat sheet, with a cheat code, because I’d just look at him and say, ‘What’s next? What do I do?’ He would just tell me exactly what to do. It’s like a cheat.

“I think the best advice is, I remember one time I was in there and I was super frustrated. He just told me not to panic. He said, ‘Don’t panic. Just react.’

Mysterio is now set to battle John Cena for the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29, 2025.
