How Jared McCain is already impacting OKC’s offense
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain is fitting in with his new team from an individual standpoint, but his offensive efforts rub off on the rest of his teammates, which has also been evident in his first week since the trade. The former Philadelphia 76ers guard has proven to be a constant threat, drawing opposing defenses to shut down, which has opened up quality prospects for the Thunder’s offense.
Amide Thunder guard Isaiah Joe’s hot breakhis scoring average (10.5 ppg) has nearly doubled since last week’s deadline trade. In the four games McCain has played since joining Oklahoma City, Joe has played average 20.0 points. He’s also connected on 17-of-31 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc, as Isaiah’s shot attempts have grown to 11.2 per game since McCain joined the Thunder.

McCain has made at least one 3-pointer in each of his four appearances, totaling six 3-pointers in 14 attempts, and had his best game since joining the Thunder, scoring 13 points on 3-for-9 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers with three rebounds and two assists in the Bucs’ 110-9 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday. On the second night of back-to-back home/away games, the Thunder split the last two games, including a 136-109 win against the Phoenix Suns.
Without All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who missed the previous five games with an abdominal injury, the shooting of Joe and McCain has been a reliable source of offensive production for Oklahoma City. Despite dropping half of their last 10 games, the defending champions will enter the All-Star break with the best record in the NBA — 42-14.
Jaylen Williams talks Jared McCain’s deal with the Thunder

After an absence of 10 games, Thunder forward Jaylen Williams played next to Jared McCain for the first time in a 119-110 road win against the Lakers. Williams considers McCain a seamless fit for the Thunder offense.
“He’s a great fit. Our team is very easy to fit in, especially if you’re young. Our team is really easy to get along with. That’s just one of our superpowers,” Williams said. “And he’s a really good kid. It’s crazy because when he was drafted, I gave a speech in the lottery room and he was there. Basketball definitely comes full circle, but he actually asked me questions. So he’s good in my book. Nobody asked me anything, and I’m pretty sure my brother was there.”
For Williams, it’s a testament to the Thunder organization’s ability to add ideal players, like McCain, who will fit right in with the team, both on and off the court.
