How Luka Doncic played in the second game in Dallas against the Mavericks

DALLAS— Luka Dončić was traded from Dallas Mavericks that the Los Angeles Lakers almost a year ago. He returned to Dallas later in the 2024-25 season, an emotional homecoming to say the least. Saturday represented Doncic’s second game in Dallas since the tradeand although it wasn’t that emotional, the fans still let Dončić know what they thought of him.

Doncic is still a fan favorite in Dallas to say the least. So how did the former Mavericks star perform Saturday night in the Lakers’ 116-110 win over the Mavs?

Luka Doncic’s performance against the Mavericks

Dončić finished the game with 33 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds while shooting 8-15 from the field and 3-8 from the field. He also added a steal and a block.

It was a strong overall performance for the star. Sure, he didn’t score the 45 points he did in the Lakers’ 112-97 win over the Mavericks last April 9, but he did more than enough to help LA on Saturday.

Dončić seemed confident throughout the game. However, the Mavs had a strong game plan against him, causing Doncic to pass the ball more than last time he played with Dallas. Forcing others to beat them was clearly the Mavs’ game plan.

The Lakers led 65-52 at halftime, as Doncic led all scorers with 17 points at halftime. The Mavs fought back and made things interesting in the third quarter. In fact, at one point in the quarter, the game was tied at 77-77 — matching Doncic’s second Game 77 in Dallas.

Entering the final quarter of the game, the score was Mavericks 87 Lakers 79.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Mavs started to run away with the game. Dallas started with a 5-0 run. The Lakers didn’t give up though. Los Angeles eventually came back and emerged victorious after a competitive fourth quarter.

Doncic certainly performed well. Meanwhile, Dallas turned in a complete team effort. Doncic, however, will obviously not allow his team to lose.

Luka Doncic is now 2-0 as a visiting opponent in Dallas.
