The popularity of women’s basketball has never been higher, which means it’s the perfect time for the sport’s newest league to debut. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese helped take women’s basketball to new heights during their college days, then the New York Liberty helped lead the way in an iconic WNBA campaign that ended with them winning their first championship. Liberty’s best player, Breanna Stewartis one of the founders of the new women’s basketball league called “Bez parmca”. It’s a 3×3 league that will start in early 2025, so let’s take a look at everything you need to know about the newest women’s basketball league.

What is unmatched?

Unrivaled is a 3×3 women’s basketball league that was founded in 2023. It will take place during the WNBA offseason, and games will be played in the United States of America. In addition to Breana Stewart, Minnesota Link’s Nafisa Collier helped found the league. ironically, Collier lost to Stewart in this year’s WNBA Finals.

The WNBA season takes place during the summer, and historically there have been about 34 games in a season (there were 40 games in 2024, and there will be 44 games in 2025). This means that many players who choose to play year-round end up playing overseas during the winter when many international leagues take place.

However, the VNBA instituted a “priority rule” in 2023. The rule required players with more than two years of VNBA experience to report to their VNBA teams by May 1 or the start of training camp, or face a season-long suspension. The rule has limited opportunities for VNBA players, and the Unrivaled League was established to fix that.

Unrivaled will begin on January 17, 2025, with games taking place in Miami, Florida at the league’s own facility. The season will last eight weeks and end before the start of the WNBA season, with nights on Monday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The new league will feature 3×3 games, instead of the traditional 5-on-5 format, although the rules differ from the FIBA format that has become popular in recent years. Matchless matches will be played on a full court, with four quarters of seven minutes each. The field size will be only 70 feet by 50 feet, not 94 feet by 50 feet.

How to watch Unrivaled

TNT Sports has broadcasting rights for Unrivaled. Monday and Friday’s games will be played on TNT, while Saturday’s games will be broadcast on truTV. Additionally, all games can be streamed on Max. Two games will be played in each game.

Unrivaled teams and rosters

34 players will play in the unrivaled League, and they will be divided between six teams. The league recently announced who will be playing on which team. Roster spots are determined after each player is placed into six floors, separated by guards, wings and big players. The six coaches then assigned players from each group to a different team without knowing which team they would be coaching. This allowed for an unbiased selection process and fair teams. Most of the elite talent in the WNBA will play in Unrivaled this season, and the full rosters are listed below.

What else do you need to know?

While most of the WNBA’s stars will play in Unrivaled, there are some big names that won’t suit up in the league in 2025. Caitlin Clark is not registered to play in the leaguenor is WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson. Sabrina Ionescu was originally expected to drop out this season, but will now suit up for the Phantom.

Paige Bookers, the projected number one pick in the NBA draft, is not eligible to play this season, as she is still playing at the collegiate level with UConn. However, she signed a NIL contract with Unrivaled and will play in the league in 2026 after making her WNBA debut.

The league not only allows players a chance to stay home to play basketball, but will offer an opportunity to supplement their WNBA income. However, the exact salaries are not yet known.

One way to walk away with a big payout is to win a 1-on-1 tournament. Mid-season, Unrivaled will host a 1-on-1 tournament, where the winner will not only be crowned the best female 1-on-1 player in the world, but will also be awarded $250,000.
