How Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s Game 4 homer inspired Toronto

The Toronto Blue Jays now they are only two wins away from the world championship after the evening World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road Tuesday night. After a tough 18-inning loss in Game 3, the The Jays ran away with Game 4 in late innings for a 6-2 win.

Toronto was already seemingly behind the 8-ball entering this game after burning most of its post in Game 3, losing George Springer to injury and still losing the game, and things seemed to get worse after Kike Hernandez’s sacrifice fly put the Dodgers up 1-0.

That’s when Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. entered. The The Blue Jays superstar launched a two-run home run in the top of the third inning by Shohei Ohtani to give the Jays a 2-1 lead, a lead they would never relinquish. After the game, the Toronto manager John Schneider talked about what did that swing mean to this Blue Jays team.

“That momentum was huge,” Schneider said. “Sweeper is a pitch designed to generate popups in my opinion, and the momentum that Vlad put up was elite. After last night and all the accolades that went to Shohei singles and him being on the mound today, that’s a huge swing from Vlad. That’s a huge swing that’s going to get us going. I think that gave you momentum from the game Vlad.

It was Guerrero’s seventh home run of the postseason and he has 14 RBIs during this playoff series. He reached base three times in Game 4, consistently providing a presence at the Blue Jays’ top.

Guerrero took the No. 2 spot in the Blue Jays’ order in this game following the injury to Springer and did not disappoint. He’s not at the same level in this series as he was in the previous two, but a game like Game 4 could get him going again with at least two games left.

If the Blue Jays are going to upset the Dodgers in the coming days, they will need more moments of magic from Guerrero. Game 4 was a great start, but it’s probably far from over from one of the hottest players on the planet this postseason.
