I Morant’s harsh reality of the Grizzlies as they return to the trade
The NBA trade deadline February 5th is fast approaching. One of those high profile players saturated with rumours is none other than I Morant.
It started with a report that Memphis Grizzlies were interested in trading Morant. However, to hear Morant tell it, he it’s not going anywhereaccording to Mark Stein of The Stein Line.
In particular, Stein said Grizzlies GM Zach Kleiman was wary of making such a move, especially considering Morant would have a hard time landing anywhere else.
“Zach Kleiman is too pragmatic to let one game change that much,” Stein said. “He’s made it very clear that he doesn’t want to be traded. He wants to stay. The reality is I don’t think there’s a big market for him. I don’t think there’s a trade that the Grizzlies can sell to their fans…He wants to stay, but he also wants to have as much say as he does. The FO stood behind the coach in that scenario.”
Stein further elaborated on Morant’s trade value to Sirius XM NBA Radio.
“I don’t think there’s a big market for Ja — I think he wants to stay, but he wants to have more of an impact like he used to. The franchise doesn’t revolve around Ja anymore. The moves they made made that clear. They didn’t give him an extension.”
The sad truth is that Ja Morant is not very marketable
There is no doubt that Ja Morant is very talented, but there is a caveat. He plays well when he’s healthy.
Despite the fact that he is an All-Star talent, Morant he became very injury prone. That along with his notorious off the field report gun violations that damaged his reputation.
As a result, Morantova trade value has declined. Morant played in 19 games and averaged 19.3 points and 7.8 assists per game.
