Immanuel Quickley enters Wilt Chamberlain territory with a monster game

On Tuesday evening, Toronto Raptors rode a hot first quarter to a 145-127 victory over a still reeling Golden State Warriors team the loss of Jimmy Butler to a season-ending torn ACL. The Warriors had no chance, especially with Immanuel Quickley illuminating it from the field. Quickley had an incredible shooting performance, scoring 40 points on 11-13 shooting from the field (84.6 percent).

The Raptors guard made seven of his eight attempts from beyond the arc and drilled all 11 of his shots from the charity stripe. Furthermore, he added 10 assists and two steals in a thorough demolition of the Warriors’ defense. At that, Quickley became only the second player in NBA history to drop at least 40 points and 10 assists in a single game while shooting over 80 percent from the field joined Wilt Chamberlain (who has done it three times) in that exclusive club, according to ESPN.

Chamberlain is not exactly the kind of man who springs to mind whenever the topic of Quickli appears. But the Raptors’ point guard simply couldn’t be stopped Tuesday, much like opposing teams in the 1960s couldn’t figure out how to stop the giant that was Wilt.

It’s not too often that an NBA team makes over 20 three-pointers in a game. But the Raptors did just that and shot over 60 percent from beyond the arc. The Warriors were already emotionally devastated by Butler’s injury. They were for the second straight night with a 135-112 win over the Miami Heat. And then they faced a Raptors team that couldn’t miss.

Five other players scored in double figures for the Raptors, who continue to suffer the absence of RJ Barrett, who is still battling an ankle injury.
