Immanuel Quickley is 100% realistic about RJ Barrett’s injury

The Toronto Raptors got back into the win column after holding off the Portland Trail Blazers, 121-118, at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday.

The Raptors led by as many as 16 points, but allowed the Trail Blazers to come back in the fourth quarter, leading to a complete shutout.

Scotty Barnes led the offense for Toronto with a career-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting, seven rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. Immanuel Quickley had 23 points, five rebounds and eight assists, while Brandon Ingram had 21 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Raptors were still playing without RJ Barrettwhich heals a knee injury.

After the victory, Quickley conceded what did they miss amid Barrett’s absence.

“He’s averaging 20 points a game and he’s been great defensively this year,” Quickley said, per Sportsnet’s Michael Grange .

As Quickley pointed out, Barrett was an effective two-way weapon, averaging 19.4 points on over 50% shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists. He covered the opposing team’s best wing players, using his athleticism and mobility.

With a core of Barrett, Barnes, Ingram and Quickley all healthy, The Raptors went on a hot streaksurprising many in the league. But when the 25-year-old Barrett was kicked out, they began to dwindle. He is expected to be out for at least another week.

Ja’Kobe Walter, Grady Dick and Ochai Agbaji will continue to share the scoring in Barrett’s place.

The Raptors improved to 15-7, including 8-2 at home, after beating the Trail Blazers, who got 25 points, eight rebounds and 14 assists from Danny Avdia.

Toronto will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
