In Indiana, Jamal Murray (52 points) caught fire: 10/11 on 3-pointers!

We left him limping at the start of the 3rd quarter matchup against the Mavericks, and he was very uncertain against the Pacersand finally, Jamal Murray absolutely signed one of the best games of his career, and even one of the best results in the history of the three-pointer with 52 points on 19 of 25 shooting, including 10 of 11 on 3-pointers! Because of him, and apparently Nikola Jokić close to a triple-double, the Nuggets won 135:120 in Indianapolis.
After scoring just 10 points against the Mavericks on Monday night, Murray already had 10 in the first quarter, on 4/6 shooting including 2/3 on 3-pointers, and that was just the warm-up round. Thrown into orbit by Jokic’s passer, Murray is at the center of a 13-0 first-quarter run to give the Nuggets a 10-point lead (27-17).
The Pacers are holding on thanks to their other knives like Jarace Walker or Garrison Mathews. Without the heat like his brother Ryan on Monday night, Andrew Nembhard is giving the Nuggets big problems, and five minutes into the half Indiana is back within five (50-45). What’s next? A festival of skill from the Nuggets who went 10 of 11 on shots in five minutes! They scored 16 straight points and ended the half with a 22-3 lead. At the break, the Nuggets lead 72-48, and Murray already has 23 points, with 9 of 11 successful shots and 5/6 on 3-pointers.
The Pacers are holding on
After the break, the match turned into a duel between Murray and Ben Shepherd. The two scored the first 16 points in the 3rd quarter, but Nikola Jokić then made the difference and increased the deficit to +27 (88-61). Rick Carlisle takes a timeout and Shepard, Siakam and McConnell step up their efforts to get back under 20 points. On every shutout, Jokic or their former teammate Bruce Brown stops their momentum (102-75).
But the Nuggets fell asleep and the Pacers really took advantage in the 4th quarter. Walker continues to cut through the Nuggets’ defense to get Indiana back to 13 with seven minutes left. David Adelman has no choice but to return Nikola Jokić to the field. The Murray-Jokić duo has its eyes closed and in less than two minutes the deficit flirts again with 20 points (121-102).
Pascal Siakam does not give up and hits two 3-pointers to bring the deficit back to -13 (128-115). Times are tough for money. There were no more shots on either side, and finally it was Murray who sealed the victory for the Nuggets with two minutes remaining for a final score of 135-120.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Denver is traveling as always. While the Nuggets remain on a four-game losing streak at home, Nikola Jokic’s teammates record their 8th straight win on the road! With 15 wins and 6 losses, Adelman’s players remain on track, one more loss than the Lakers, 2nd in their conference.
Murray close to the record. Under the eyes of Adam Silver, Jamal Murray is approaching his career high (55 points) with his 52 points on 19 of 25 shooting, including 10 of 11 from 3-point range. In history, only two players have scored 50 or more points with such skill and quantity on 3-pointers. So it’s about Murray and…Aaron Gordonduring the first night of the NBA season. What they both have in common: they play in Denver and have Nikola Jokic to put them in orbit.
Jokić diminished? In the first quarter, Jokić went straight to the locker room with four minutes left. Maybe because his left wrist keeps dragging him. He would return early in the second quarter to spread the game, but was generally less active than usual on the rebound. Maybe to avoid aggravating this little sprain.
