In just one half, the Knicks steal the Hornets

knicks hornets

Within the NBA Cup, the Knicks and Hornets crossed spears in a duel where defeat was almost synonymous with elimination for both teams.

Under the watchful eye of Allen Iverson, Brandon Miller (18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists) fires a long-range shot before sending Ryan Kalkbrenner for a layup to start this game 5-0. A short-lived lead, as a few minutes later Josh Hart (22 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists) gives New York the lead and little by little the Knicks take off. At the end of this first act, Jalen Brunson (33 points, 14/28 shooting) made 2+1 and received “MVP” chants from the Spectrum Center, then Mikal Bridges made a shot at the buzzer to give the visitors a 37-31 lead after twelve minutes.

Charlotte starts the second quarter with 0/5 shooting, and New York uses this clumsiness to increase the deficit a little more (42-31), while Charles Lee’s men persist in shooting from behind the arc even though they are not skilled in this first half (27% success). The penalty comes just before halftime as the Knicks end the first period with a 13-0 lead capped by two game-winning shots from Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Mike Brown’s team goes into the locker room with a 72-47 lead, with all five leading by more than ten points.

Very short reaction Charlotte

After going to the locker room, Brandon Miller tried to start a revolt by hitting two 3-pointers in quick succession, and the Hornets tried to get back on track by scoring points on free throws. A strategy that paid off only briefly as Charlotte clawed back to within 17 points, before Miles McBride gave the Big Apple franchise a twenty-yard lead (79-59). In the end, the home team was unable to go further and still trailed by 23 points before the start of the last quarter (98-75).

Not surprisingly, Charlotte was unable to catch up in the final act despite a nice battle between LaMelo Ball (11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists) and Moussa Diabate (4 points, 4 rebounds) midway through the fourth quarter. The Hornets ended up losing 129-101, dropping their seventh straight loss. They have already been eliminated from the NBA Cup without winning a single match so far.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Hornets blowout before halftime. If the Knicks quickly took control of this game, Charlotte somehow managed to stay in the game until New York went on a 13-0 run in two minutes just before halftime. A run in which the visitors were able to show the versatility of their attack, while the Hornets settled for 3-point shooting. First Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson shine in the racquet before finishing this good pass with the winning shot. After them, the Knicks have a 25-point lead when they enter the locker room. A void that Charlotte is unable to fill in the second half.

Lots of French, but not very inspired. Moussa Diabate was the most outstanding French player during this encounter although he had problems with fouls in the first half. He finished the game with four points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of play. for the Knicks, Guerschon Yabusele played twelve lackluster minutes as he missed two shots he took even if he grabbed four rebounds. This meeting ended quickly, Mike Brown managed to open his bench, the opportunity to see for a few minutes Mohammed Diawara etc Pacome Dadiet. If the first managed to make a 3-point shot and provide two assists in two minutes, the second was satisfied with only one rebound.

Knicks hopeful, Hornets eliminated. With this great success, the Knicks are still hoping for a place in the knockout phase of this NBA Cup, but for that a victory this Friday will be mandatory against the Bucks, a team that will also try to confirm their qualifications after losing to the Heat. For their part, the Hornets were eliminated and are yet to win a single match in the competition this season.
