Insider Makes Ja Morant Trade Prediction After “Loyal” Mic Drop

The NBA trade deadline is just over two weeks away, and one of the biggest names on the market is said to be Memphis Grizzlies star guardian I Morant. The Grizzlies were recently in Berlin and London as part of the NBA European Games, and Morant seemingly shot down all the rumors that he wanted to trade. However, it has not yet completely poured cold water on the trade winds.
Even after Ja Morant declared his franchise loyalty, The Commercial Appeal’s Damichael Cole still believes the Grizzlies star will be in motion come the NBA trade deadline.
“To answer the question directly, I think as of right now, if you say, does Ja Morant stay (in Memphis) past the trade deadline? I’d lean more toward no based on what we know,” Cole said during a recent episode of the Locked On Grizzlies podcast.
After sitting out the Grizzlies’ first game in Europe, Morant returned to the lineup and played one of his best games of the season. He finished with a game-high 24 points, five rebounds and 13 assists in 28 minutes as the Grizzlies defeated the Orlando Magic 126-109.
The regular season got off to a bit of a rough start for Morant and the Grizzlies, starting with a falling out between the All-Star guard and head coach Tuomas Iisal. That’s when trade rumors initially began to heat up, with a report last week by ESPN’s Shams Charania seemingly confirmed that the Grizzlies were fun for the former No. 2 overall pick.
Morant has appeared in 19 games this season, averaging just over 28 minutes per game. He averaged 19.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 23.5 percent from the 3-point line and 89 percent from the free throw line.
