Insider teases Rockets as potential trade candidate for Giannis

The The Houston Rockets were sliding lately, she recently released a puzzle game on the road to the Sacramento Kingspreceded by two straight losses to the Portland Trail Blazers. The loss dropped the Rockets into playoff territory in the Western Conference, well below where they thought they would be at this point after their hot start to the season.

All the turbulence has led some to wonder if a Houston trade could be on the horizon as the deadline nears, with NBA insider Matt Moore recently teasing the Rockets as potential team it could make a big splash for the Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“Giannis is staying until the deadline, he’s being traded this summer, everyone is treating it as a done deal at this point, but of course some team could offer something crazy to change that and speed things up,” Moore reported on Hardwood Parokism Substack.

“That team would most likely be Houston,” he noted in a footnote.

At this point, it’s unclear exactly what the Rockets would offer the Bucks in a potential package for Antetokounmpo, but it would almost certainly include at least one of Amen Thompson or Alperen Sengun, two young stars who have helped accelerate Houston’s rebuilding process over the past few seasons.

Meanwhile, the Rockets’ lack of a true point guard came back to bite the team during their recent loss. Entering the season, that role was expected to fall to former NBA champion Fred VanVleet, but his unfortunate ACL injury changed that, and it remains to be seen if the team will look for someone to fill that role at the trade deadline.

Either way, the Rockets are scheduled to hit the court Tuesday night at home against the Chicago Bulls.
