Insider’s strong claim on Jaren Duran, Willier Abreu trade

The Boston Red Sox are preparing to make a number of changes to their roster during the offseason. One of the most obvious moves seems to be switching players off the field.
Rookie of the Year finalist Roman Anthony it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. However, both Villiers Abreu and Jarren DuranFutures in Boston are much more uncertain. In fact, Red Sok trading one of them seems inevitable to ESPN’s Jeff Pasano.
“The Red Sox will almost certainly deal one of them,” Passan wrote. “There aren’t enough bats in the lineup for both of them, especially if they add another bat in free agency.”
In addition to the two trade candidates and Anthony, the Red Sox also have Sedan Rafael who needs time in the outfield. Then there’s Christian Campbell, who has played more outfield and top prospect Jostinxon Garcia, who will make his MLB debut in 2025. Simply put, there is no room in the lineup for both Duran and Abreu. That problem is only increasing if the Red Sox signed a big bat like Pete Alonso.
Duran played 510 games for Boston, hitting .267 with 50 home runs, 226 RBI and 91 stolen bases. He was named the MVP of the All-Star Game and the 2024 All-Star Game.
Abreu established himself as an elite defensive player, earning back-to-back Gold Gloves. In the box, he hit .256 with 39 home runs, 141 RBI and 17 stolen bases.
Both players will be attractive to any team in need of infield play. The Red Sox will look to get the best value possible and keep their team in the playoffs.
