Darius Garland was listed as ruled out on the injury report and will miss his third straight game with a left big toe contusion and injury management. Darius Garland’s injury status against the Grizzlies

When it comes to the question of whether Darius Garland game tonight against the Grizzlies, the answer is no.

Garland will again watch from the sidelines and has not played since Monday night, when he suffered a major contusion to his left finger after landing awkwardly on him and fouling Miami Heat forward Nikola Jokic. He tried to play in the second half, but had to intentionally commit a personal foul before exiting the game in pain midway through the third quarter.

After the game, the Cavs hoped the setback would be smaller. Additional an evaluation on Tuesday indicated that Garland suffered only a bruise. Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson was relieved by the findings after the “freak collision”.

“He had a bit of stiffness, but it wasn’t serious or anything,” Atkinson said before Wednesday’s second leg in Miami. “This is not an easy injury to come back from. We see it in the NFL; you watch all the quarterbacks that have had a similar injury. I think everybody thinks with this one, you can just come back like you’re coming back from a sprained ankle. This is different.

“I read a lot about it. Our group educated me. So we have to have patience, and DG has to have patience, right? You’re not going to be an all-star GM all of a sudden. So he understands that. He’s just a competitor, he wants to do anything for the team.”

Atkinson revealed Thursday that Garland took a few hits on the field, and the team is listing his status as day-to-day.
