Donovan Mitchell’s injury status against the Pacers

When it comes to the question of whether Donovan Mitchell game tonight against the Pacers, the answer is no.

Mitchell will miss his third game of the season to rest as the Cavs play every other day until Jan. 16. There are always scrapes and bruises to deal with, so it makes sense for him to get a few extra days before meeting the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday, especially given Indiana’s current situation.

Cleveland could also be without Jarrett Allen and Dean Wade for the second straight game, though the former could return if his illness subsides. Wade is “pretty shaken up,” according to head coach Kenny Atkinson. He collided with Jordan Goodwin in Wednesday’s New Year’s Eve win over the Phoenix Suns, so The Cavs will need to find a way to space the floor better in case he misses his third straight contest.

Larry Nance Jr. continues to recover from a strained right calf, and still no update on Max Struss. Atkinson, however, hinted that one would soon arrive from the team. There are no surprises on the Pacers’ injury list, as Benedict Maturin missed last game with a thumb injury and Jackson hasn’t played since Dec. 22 due to the NBA’s concussion protocol.
