Is Jason Kidd’s job in jeopardy after Nick Harrison’s firing?

With Dallas The Mavericks are expected to move on from general manager Nick Harrisonattention now shifts towards the future of the franchise. Will the Mavs hold on Jason Kidd as head coach or consider moving on from him as well? According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Mavs owner Patrick Dumont will “lean hard” about Kidd after shooting Harrison.

“Sources say Dumont is also expected to lean heavily on Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, whose contract was extended in each of the past two offseasons by Dumont after the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks expressed interest in trying to hire Kidd from Dallas to coach their teams,” Stein recently reported.

Kidd received a contract extension ahead of the 2025-26 campaign. Dallas seems to have interest in keeping him around for at least a few more seasons. That said, one has to wonder if the Mavs will consider a completely fresh start if the team continues to struggle at an alarming rate. Dallas currently holds a 3-8 record – which puts them second to last in the Western Conference standings.

The Mavs have the worst offensive rating in the league. Kidd was unable to put the pieces together on offense to help the team achieve success. He’s often said that players simply miss open shots — which may be true — but the offense also seems to lack a real identity.

Of course, injuries have undoubtedly affected the team. Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving are among the players currently injured.

The Mavericks – barring unforeseen circumstances – will continue with Kidd for now.
