Is Joel Embiid playing against the Thunder? The latest injury update on the 76ers superstar

The Philadelphia 76ers begin a tough back-to-back with their first matchup of the season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately, one of their best players won’t be available to face the top seed in the Western Conference in a 7:00 PM EST game at the Wells Fargo Center. Joel Embiid he’s not playing tonight against the Thunder.

Is Joel Embiid playing against the Thunder?

Embiid is out due to a sprained left foot. It will be his fifth straight absence and 25th of the season.

The 76ers haven’t played Embiid on either side of back-to-backs this season, so he should have already missed Tuesday’s game against the Thunder or Wednesday’s game against the New York Knicks regardless of how injured he was. Still, it’s concerning that Embiid missed so many games after playing through a foot injury.

Embiid injured his foot in the 76ers’ Christmas Day win over the Boston Celtics. The big man played in four of the next five games after that, missing only the first end of back-to-back games, and has now missed nearly two weeks worth of games with an injury that is considered a day-to-day question.

This back-to-back will be tough for the 76erswho are 8-16 in games Embiid has missed this season. The Thunder have the best defense in the NBA and one of the league’s best scorers in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. A win against them or the Knicks would be very nice, though unlikely.

Paul George (sprained right ankle) and Justin Edwards (sprained left ankle) are listed as probable, Tyrese Maxey (sprained left hand) and Caleb Martin (sprained right groin) are questionable and Andre Drummond (sprained left toe), Kyle Lowry (right) hip sprain), Jared McCain (surgery left knee meniscus) and KJ Martin (left foot stress) reaction) stay out.

For the Thunder, Chet Holmgren (fractured right iliac wing), Ajay Mitchell (sprained right big toe) and Nikola Topic (left knee surgery) have been ruled out.
