Is Memphis ready to trade Ja Morant after his latest suspension?

The Memphis Grizzlies‘ I Morant an era may be coming to an end.
Once touted as the NBA’s next superstar, Morant’s career has taken off several times over the past few seasons, mostly as a result of suspensions handed down to him from the league and the Grizzlies themselves. And after alconfirm Memphis’ one-game ban for “conduct detrimental to the team”, the question is: is it best for both parties to move on?
While the Grizzlies don’t appear to be quite there at this point, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania said other teams are keeping an eye on the situation, possibly swooping in to sign Morant if things continue sour.
“The last few days there’s been tension around Ja Morant and his feelings about first base coach Tuomas Iisal’s rotation patterns and his plays,” Charania told “SportsCenter.” “But really culminated after and during the loss to the Lakers on Friday night in the locker room after the game. Morant and Iisalo had an exchange, where Iisalo called out Morant’s leadership and hard work in front of the entire team. And as teammates and staff looked on, Morant responded in what the team felt was an inappropriate and dismissive manner, according to sources.
“… For now, Morant is expected to rejoin the team Monday at home against the Detroit Pistons. The sides want to get through this, Gary, and move on. … Teams around the league, though, are watching this, keeping an eye on where this relationship between Ja Morant and the Grizzlies stands. They want to move on after today and after he plays this game.”-

Will they be able to do it? From Morant’s last few seasonsseems unlikely.
During the 2022-23 season, his fourth in the NBA and his first since signing a five-year, $197.2 million contract extension, he was involved in three gun-related incidents, the second of which led to him taking a leave of absence and ultimately receiving an eight-game suspension by the league. Less than two months later, the Grizzlies suspended him after posting a gun on Instagram. The NBA then handed him a 25-game ban, which he served at the start of the 2023-24 season.
While Morant has been able to avoid any further suspensions until his current situation, he has battled injuries in each of the past two seasons and was criticized and warned by the NBA for pointing a weapon at Buddy Hield of the Golden State Warriors during a game last April. He earned a penalty for comments on the backlash, during which he said: “I don’t care anymore.”
Two days before a 3-for-14 shows and reported conflict with his coach against the Lakers, Morant had 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and a basket in the victory against the Phoenix Suns.
After tonight’s game against the Toronto Raptors with Morant, the Grizzlies will host the Detroit Pistons tomorrow night.
