Isaiah Joe got a bigger role Oklahoma City Thunder amid Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s extended absence. Against the Los Angeles Lakers on MondayJoe again showed he relishes the opportunity.

While it is almost impossible fill the shoes of Gilgeous-AlexanderJoe can definitely get buckets in different ways.

Joe was fearless attacking the rim against the Lakers. In the second quarter, he hit the basket brilliantly, receiving a pass from Isaiah Hartenstein. Joe then exploded for two-handed rinsingsurpassing LeBron James.

The Thunder rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Lakers 119-110 and snap their two-game skid.

Joe recorded 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 27 minutes off the bench.

He will continue to play a key role for the Thunder, as Gilgeous-Alexander is sidelined until after All-Star weekend with an abdominal strain. 26-year-old Joe has accepted to be the spark plug of the team, providing an instant point. He averages 10.2 points in 21 minutes.

Joe is one of the Thunder’s power forwards, along with Caruso, Ajay Mitchell and Aaron Wiggins. They impact the game with their two-way energy, making sure they don’t shrink when the starting unit rests.

Jaylen Williams, meanwhile, returned against the Lakers, scoring 23 points on 6-of-17 shooting. He has missed 10 straight games with a hamstring strain.

Oklahoma City will face the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday before getting a much-needed break.
