Ja Morant calls the game with a floater over the Suns
Wednesday night, Memphis Grizzlies found in the barn, with plucky Phoenix Suns pushing I Morant and society to the brim. It looked like the Suns would take control of the game as Devin Booker hit a 3-pointer to cut the Grizzlies’ lead to one, then Mark Williams gave them the lead with a wide-open dunk. But the Grizzlies were able to do whatever it took to get the win — with Morant starring in the process.
With about 17 seconds left, the Grizzlies forced a turnover by Booker, setting up a potential game-winner. They didn’t take a timeout even though they had one left. Instead, they handed the ball to Morant and let him go to work. With the Suns looking lost on defense in half-transition, Santi Aldama found an open Morant, who took the ball to the hole and drilled open float right over the outstretched arms of Grayson Allen, giving them a 114-113 lead.
The Suns ran out of timeouts, so they had to rush the ball up the court with about eight seconds left. They inbounded the ball to Williams, who threw the ball to Booker. Booker then had a chance to win the game for the Suns, launching a blistering 3-pointer above the break over Jaren Jackson Jr.’s suffocating defense. Booker’s shot ended up bouncing off the rim – sealing a 114-113 victory for Memphis.

Morant finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists on the night while shooting 10-19 from the field and 3-8 from beyond the arc. The Grizzlies recorded their third win of the season in five tries, and it was the second time this year they have outscored a team in crunch time.
The Grizzlies are winning back-to-back affairs against the Suns

The The Grizzlies and Suns were tied all night, and it seemed inevitable that this game would come down to the final shot. But it came down to which team had the better defense when it mattered most, and the Suns couldn’t get a defensive stop at the game’s most important moment. Meanwhile, Jackson had Booker on the bench, which was so important considering Booker already had 32 points on the night.
The win marks the Grizzlies’ sixth straight victory over the Suns in the past three seasons. The next match between these two teams will be on January 7.
